COURSE DESCRIPTION


M.Sc. Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing or Master of Science in Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing is a postgraduate Nursing programme. Obstetrics and Gynecology nursing are two fields of nursing where the practitioners deals with the reproductive health of women. They help women during pregnancy, labor and childbirth, as well as women with health issues with their reproductive system. As a Gynecology/Obstetrics Nurse, you’ll also teach women, and teenage girls, about physical and sexual health providing information on treatments from birth control to mammograms. Course covers women’s reproductive health, from when menstruation begins, through pregnancy, childbirth, and through menopause. Gynecology nurses can also treat women who suffer from disorders or illnesses affecting their reproductive system, such as cancer, endometriosis, or sexually transmitted diseases. There are subspecialties under this title as well, including perinatal nursing, and labor and delivery nursing Subjects usually studied under this are Gynecological Nursing, Anatomy, Fundamentals of Nursing, Anatomy, Nutrition, Child Health Nursing, Community Health, Family Welfare, Psychology and Surgical Nursing.


M.Sc. Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing Eligibility

  • Pass in B.Sc Nursing Basic / B.Sc Honors in Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc in Nursing / Post Certificate B.Sc Nursing with at least 60% marks or equivalent  CGPA.
  • Some of the very reputed universities and institutes conduct entrance examination for admission.

  • It will further enable the students to functions as midwifery nurse practitioner/specialist, educator, manager and researcher in the field of obstetric and gynecological nursing.

  • They may also become part of a woman’s support group. Their responsibilities also include making sure that a woman is comfortable during, before and after childbirth. OB/GYN nurses may also work in oncology wards taking care of women suffering from breast and reproductive organ cancers.
  • The Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse may also find herself taking care of women suffering from STDs.
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology nurses may choose to work in hospitals or they could work in birthing clinics.
  • Those who choose to work in the hospital setting may be assigned in Obstetrics and Gynecology units. They may also work in special areas like the emergency room.
