COURSE DESCRIPTION

M.Sc. Geoinformatics or Master of Science in Geoinformatics is a postgraduate Information Technology Management course. The course is aimed at developing science graduates in the field of Informatics of the Earth. The increasing applications of Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing have created a gap between the demand and supply of trained man power in this field. The duration of the course is two years and its syllabus is divided into four semesters. The course is an important one and career originating in nature which opens a lot of job scopes for the candidates after its completion.

M.Sc. Geoinformatics Eligibility

  • Graduates in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, Science, Agriculture, Management, Geography and Commerce with a Minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST candidates).
  • Some of the reputed colleges and institutes conduct entrance examination for admission to M.Sc. Degree courses.

M.Sc. Geoinformatics Course Suitability

  • Candidates those who want to gain both the breadth and depth of knowledge in Geo-informatics required for solving real-world problems are suitable for it.
  • Who have the capacity of understanding of the geographical context in the effective collection of geographical data and information from a variety of sources (primary and secondary) including using remote sensing; topographical surveying, GPS technology, etc. are good suit for it.
  • They should have the ability to critically assess, evaluate and use computational methods in Geo-informatics, including machine learning, neural networks, genetic algorithms and pattern search and recognition.
  • They should be able to explain the principles, theories, tools and techniques of geo-informatics and apply specialised knowledge of geo-informatics to a wide range of disciplines.

How is M.Sc. Geoinformatics Course Beneficial?

  • Students completing this course will be equipped to follow careers in managing, presenting and analyzing spatial and geographic information, or developing spatial and geographic systems and applications in a wide variety of organisations and application areas.
  • The course is beneficial for further studies such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. as it gives good base for these degrees.
  • The students will gain the unique knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate the design, development, and deployment of complex systems and applications in a rapidly emerging Geoinformatics profession.
  • The course teaches students that how to apply creative and critical thinking in solving applications in multidisciplinary areas using Geoinformatics.
