COURSE DESCRIPTION


M.Phil. Geography or Master of Philosophy in Geography is a postgraduate Geography course. Geography is the science that deals with the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena. A literal translation would be "to describe or write about the Earth". Four historical traditions in geographical research are the spatial analysis of natural and human phenomena (geography as a study of distribution), area studies (places and regions), study of man-land relationship, and research in earth sciences.  Nonetheless, modern geography is an all-encompassing discipline that foremost seeks to understand the Earth and all its human and natural complexities not merely where objects are, but how they have changed and come to be. Geography is divided into two main branches such as human geography and physical geography. This postgraduate degree is an important and career originating one. The duration of the course is two years but at some places it being offered on one-year basis.


M.Phil. Geography Eligibility

  • Candidates should have passed their Masters’ degree with 55% in Geography is eligible for this course but admission criteria may be different from place to place.

M.Phil. Geography Course Suitability

  • Candidates who have the ability of analysing and problem-solving, decision-making, critically interpreting data and text, developing a reasoned argument, numerical, team-working, planning skills, presenting oral and written arguments and information, communication and technology skills are the most suitable one for it. 
  • Those who want to become lecturer at colleges / university level they can go for this course. NET eligibility is necessary for college and university lecturer currently. 
  • Candidates who have interest in geographical aspect and facts and want to have research in it also are good match for the course.

How is M.Phil. Geography Course Beneficial?

  • Exploring and determining various natural resources hidden in planet earth. It helps in extractions of mineral resources from the Earth. Some of these economic and mineral resources such as gemstones, metals asbestos, partite, mica, phosphates, zealots, clay, pumice, quartz, silica, sulphur, chlorine, and helium are quite precious. 
  • Students studying M.Phil. Geology also help in ascertaining areas, where petroleum products and natural gas can be found inside the planet earth. Since at a much higher level, geology also helps in engineering work, the M.Phil. students of geology can also be consulted in location, design, construction, operation and maintenance of engineering works.
