Diploma in Early Childhood Education is a Diploma level education course. The course is also known as Diploma in Early Childhood Care Education, Diploma in Early Child Care Education and Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education. It is also abbreviated as ECCE, DECCE, DECE, DECEd and ECE. This course helps the candidate in developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for working with young children (i.e. children up to six years of age). It enables them to organise and manage child-care centres like crèches, preschools, nursery schools, kindergartens and day-care centres. This Diploma course deals with a preschool curriculum and can significantly contribute to a child's proper growth. Academic course is combined with field placements, which enable students to gain an understanding of children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive, needs. The duration of the course varies from 1 year to 2 years but the diploma mentioned here refers to 1year diploma course. The Diploma of 2 years duration is generally accredited by SCERT (State Council for Educational Research & Training, Delhi), however there could be certain institutes offering the course accredited by some other authority. The minimum time to complete the course differentiates from institute to institute. The course may also be available on part time basis in some certain institutes.
