COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.Sc. Agriculture or Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is an undergraduate Agriculture Science and Technology course. Agriculture is the classifications name for the farming industry. It refers to the production of goods through the growing of plants and fungi and the raising of domesticated animals. The study of agriculture is known as agricultural science. The related practice of gardening is studied in horticulture. The duration of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is four years. The course offered by different departments (theoretical and practical) is taught to the students on credit basis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture also includes on farm RAWE (Rural Agriculture Work Experience) training and hands on experimental developing confidence in the graduating students of Agriculture.


B.Sc. Agriculture Eligibility

  • The minimum qualification required to apply for B.Sc. in agriculture is 50-60% (depends on institute to institute) in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Admission criterion is an entrance test conducted by various institutes which differs from place to place.

B.Sc. Agriculture Course Suitability

  • India being an agricultural country from the very beginning so most of the families here are agrarian in rural areas and doing cultivation. Therefore, candidates from such families are most suitable for this agriculture course.
  • Applicants those who want to become lecturer and scientist are also most suitable for it.
  • They should have a good knowledge in science, and be familiar with crops, pastures, soil types, agricultural and horticultural chemicals etc.
  • Applicants must have a keen and analytical mind, a high level of concentration, an aptitude for research, ability to work as part of a team, abundant physical stamina to put in long hours of work and patience.
  • Other essential skills are good observation, communication skill, organizing skills, written and oral skills, the ability to give presentations and knowledge of common business concepts.

  • A lot of career opportunities are in the agricultural industries from farmer to consumer, plough to plate as agriculture being the lucrative industry in India and at the global level.
  • They can seek employment in Central and State Government ministries and departments; Agricultural finance corporation research institutions; nationalized banks and rural banks; Krishi Vigyan Kendras; Agro - Industry Sector; Agricultural universities and various agricultural service organizations.
  • They can also be employed as agricultural managers/inspectors in farm related organisations, agro-industries, food-processing unit, dairy fields, NGO's and breeding centres.
  • They can also set up their own business in primary economic sector such as farming, plantations, fisheries, mining, cattle rearing, poultry farming etc.
