COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.Tech. Dairy Technology or Bachelor of Technology in Dairy Technology is an undergraduate Agriculture Science and Technology course. Dairy Technology deals with all methods of handling milk from production and consumption and includes processing, packaging, storage, transport and physical distribution. Based on the sciences of biochemistry, bacteriology, and nutrition, Dairy Technology employs the principles of engineering. Its objectives are to prevent spoilage, improve quality, increase shelf-life, and make milk palatable and safe for human consumption. The duration of the course is four years and it is an important and job orienting in nature.


B.Tech. Dairy Technology Eligibility

  • The diploma and degree courses in dairy technology require candidates who have passed the 10+2 examination, with Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English or Physics, chemistry, Biology or Agriculture with a minimum aggregate of 50 % marks.
  • In most of the States the admission is made based on entrance test common to other agricultural and animal science courses.

B.Tech. Dairy Technology Course Suitability

  • They should have scientific bent of mind, willingness to work hard, commitment, an enquiring mind and cleanliness.
  • They must be prepared to live in remote areas and far away from the comforts as they should work as per the demand of the situation.
  • They should be humane in behave as they should deal with animals which cannot speak; they should guess about the need and other requirements of them.
  • Applicants willing for Master degree and then for further research work also are suitable for it.

How is B.Tech. Dairy Technology Course Beneficial?

  • One can find jobs in dairy farms, cooperatives, rural banks, milk product processing and manufacturing industries. Besides working in these areas, one can also work as a teacher and in research and development departments in dairy industry.
  • At present, there are eleven dairy science colleges which offer first degree level courses leading to B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) & B.Sc. (Dairy Technology). Such as National Dairy Research Institute (Karnal and Bangalore) and Sheth MC College of Dairy Science (Anand).
  • The dairy technologists can also undertake consultancy work. A successful consultant, however, needs several years of working experience in dairy firms to understand the nitty gritty of the work.
  • Besides opportunities for teaching and research, dairy technologists can start their own enterprises such as small-scale milk plants, creamery, and ice cream units.
